Who We Serve
Evergreen Haven is almost exclusively focused on dementia care. We don't spread our expertise across dozens of different conditions — we've built our team, our training, and our environment specifically around supporting people with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
That specialization makes a difference. Our staff recognize the signs of sundowning. They know how to de-escalate agitation without restraint. They understand that what looks like aggression is often fear — and they respond accordingly.
What We Provide
Every service we offer is built around the individual — not a one-size-fits-all care plan.
Home-cooked meals tailored to individual tastes and dietary needs. If a resident doesn't like what's on the menu today, we make something different — no questions asked.
Assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility — provided with dignity and respect. HCBS funding covers Activities of Daily Living support.
Our RN oversees all medication protocols, ensuring medications are administered correctly and that behavioral challenges are managed without unnecessary chemical sedation.
Structured activities designed to stimulate memory, promote connection, and honor each resident's interests — from puzzles and games to music and art.
Staff on site around the clock. Our night shift (8pm–8am) ensures residents are safe and cared for at every hour, including the often-difficult nighttime hours common with dementia.
We keep families in the loop with regular updates, open communication, and an open-door policy. You'll never feel left out of your loved one's care.
Our Approach
This is one of the things we're most proud of — and one of the things families tell us makes the biggest difference. Many care facilities respond to difficult dementia behaviors by increasing medication. It's faster and easier for staff. But it sedates your loved one. It robs them of what quality of life they have left.
We believe there's a better way. Our team is trained in dementia-specific behavioral management techniques that get to the root of what a resident is experiencing and respond with care, not chemicals.
Our approach: When a resident becomes frustrated, agitated, or confused, we redirect to an activity they enjoy, engage them in meaningful conversation, or address the underlying need. Compassion works better than confrontation — and better than sedation.
Life at Evergreen Haven
Our days are thoughtfully structured but always flexible. We plan around what residents enjoy — not around what's easiest for staff.
Every resident wakes on their own schedule. Mornings may include gardening in our raised beds, light exercise, or simply enjoying coffee and conversation. We match the pace to the person.
Board games, bingo, painting, crafts, and more. Activities are selected based on what residents enjoy and what's appropriate for their current abilities — always adapted, never forced.
We regularly host musicians, singers, spiritual leaders, and community visitors. These moments create joy and connection — and often reach residents in ways that nothing else can.
Guido, our resident black Labrador, is part of the family. Regular pet visits — including outside animal visitors — provide comfort, joy, and a natural source of calm for residents.
Our raised garden beds provide a safe, purposeful outdoor experience. Gardening is therapeutic — it provides sensory engagement, a sense of accomplishment, and fresh air.
Birthdays, holidays, and community milestones are celebrated with care. From Fourth of July fireworks to holiday traditions, we keep the seasons of life alive.
Clinical Oversight
Having a skilled Registered Nurse on our team changes the level of care we can provide. Our RN brings extensive dementia care expertise and provides the clinical eye that ensures your loved one's health is monitored with intention.
Paying for Care
We built Evergreen Haven with Medicaid recipients in mind. Quality care shouldn't require unlimited resources.
We proudly accept Medicaid (HCBS) for Activities of Daily Living support. Room and board is covered by the resident's Social Security, with $100 retained for personal spending.
We don't charge higher rates for private pay residents. Everyone — regardless of payment source — receives the same individualized, high-quality care.
Evergreen Haven holds a Kansas Home+ license — a residential care designation that allows us to operate as a genuine home environment with professional oversight.
